Throughout its 50 years of service to the State of Paraná, COPEL has benefited from a huge geographical and environmental contribution: our State is gifted in terms of water resources.
The great Iguassu River, which runs westward through the State from the outskirts of Curitiba all the way into the Paraná River, is home to our major hydroelectric power plants, generating wealth, comfort, progress, and all the other benefits of electricity.
That is why, in the year of its 50 th anniversary, COPEL created the Tribute to the Iguassu project, which has been conducted in association with the Company's partners, with a view to perpetuating the gratitude of the people of Paraná for our beloved river. The backdrop to this Report is the beauty of water in nature.
All featured photographs, shot by photographer Nani Góes, display in a unique and poetic manner some of the remarkable waterfalls spread throughout the State of Paraná. They serve as inspiration for all of us to preserve the gifts nature has given us. The integration between technology and nature is epitomized in the lyrics of "Moto-Contínuo" (perpetual motion), a song by Chico Buarque:
"Mankind builds seven power plants running on the energy that springs out of you.
Mankind drives the joy that comes out of the turbines back to you,
and creates the perpetual motion if it is for you."
In 50 years, COPEL has never forgotten that its mission is to serve Mankind. This is yet another reason why the Company has been practicing Social Responsibility without fail.
